The World Youth Championships in 100-payline checkers with classic time control concluded on 2 November in Police, Poland.

The Latvian youngsters came second in the team event, while six medals were won in the individual event – one gold, two silver and three bronze.

Our young darts player Varvara Ivanova became World Champion in the U10 age group and received the World Champion gold medal with 15 points. Our young checkers player Alise Misāne, who won 13 points and was awarded bronze, successfully competed and became World Vice-Champion. At the very foot of the podium was another of our young checkers players Luīze Gudēvica Liepiņa, who won 12 points and came in fourth place.

In the U8 age group for boys, our young darts player Ernest Andersons took the third place with 13 points and received the bronze medal. In fourth place with 12 points was another young checkers player Nils Panko.

In the U10 age group for boys, our young player Maksims Novickis took second place with 14 points and received the silver medal. The talented Daniels Sokols was on the third step of the podium with 13 points.

In the U13 girls’ age group, Latvia was led by young player Malvīne Misāne, who scored 12 points and won bronze. Evelina Orlovska was very close to the podium, but a bad luck in the last round put her in fourth place, which is also a great success.

Other good results were also achieved by our checkers players. In the U16 boys group, Pēteris Kripans finished 2-4th, but unfortunately, according to the additional criteria, he still came in 4th place. Also fourth place in the U19 age group for juniors went to Klāvs Norenbergs. The sixth place went to Anna Biruma in the U8 age group for girls, Martinas Masanauskas in the U13 age group for boys and Darja Drabova in the U16 age group for girls.
