The last World Cup event of the year ended on 9 December in Julinek, Poland, with the participation of some of Latvia’s best checkers players in a field of 47 players.

In the women’s competition the first place with 11 points was won by our checkers player Jelena Chesnokova, who beat two world champions – Darya Tkachenko from the Netherlands and Natalia Sadowska from Poland, both of them with 10 points and second and third place respectively.

In the men’s competition, international grandmaster Artem Ivanov from Ukraine won with 13 points. Second place with the same number of points goes to International Grandmaster Alexander Shwartsman from Israel. Third place with 12 points went to Dutch International Grandmaster Martijn van Ijzendoorn, thanks to better additional scores.

Our International Grandmaster Guntis Valneris came fourth with 12 points. Another of our international grandmasters, Raimonds Vipulis, was ninth with 11 points, while our players Pēteris Kripans and Gunārs Gribuška, also with 11 points, were 12th and 13th respectively.
