The 3rd World Veterans Championship in 100 checkers is held in Korbach, Germany. Veterans from 60 years of age and up took part in the championship. Latvia was represented by Jakovs Levins and Jānis Lelis. First, from 22 October to 28 October, the championship took place in the classics, where among 44 competitors, Yakov Levin took 13th place with 10 points out of a possible 18, and Janis Lelis, with 9 points, took 24th place. The men’s World Veterans Champion was Rotislav Leshchinsky, an international grandmaster from Ukraine, while the women’s World Champion was Romualda Šidlauskienė from Lithuania.

On 28 October, the World Veterans Championship was held in the fast-paced event, where Yakov Levin was a great success. In a field of 30 competitors, he won the World Championship with 14 points out of a possible 18! Jānis Lelis scored 8 points to repeat in 24th place. Romualda Šidlauskienė repeated as the Women’s World Veterans Speed Skating Champion.
