The 72nd Latvian Men’s 100 Draughts Championship and the 52nd Latvian Women’s 100 Draughts Championship concluded on 25 February in Riga. The competition was played in a round-robin system with time controls of 45 minutes per game plus 30 seconds per move.
Ten players competed in the Women’s Championship and the young Latvian checkers players made a convincing start. Malvīne Misāne became the Latvian champion and received the gold medal, scoring 13 points out of a possible 18. Second place went to Jelizaveta Zakharova with 12 points and a silver medal. Only due to poorer additional scores, Alise Misāne, who also scored 12 points, came in third place and received the bronze medal.
Twelve competitors took part in the men’s competition. Guntis Valneris became the Latvian champion very convincingly and received the gold medal, he scored 19 points out of 22 possible. Second place went to Gunārs Gribuška, with 14 points, which earned him the silver medal. In third place, Robert Misans, who also scored 14 points, was awarded the bronze medal due to poorer additional criteria.
