From 14 to 17 March, the finals of the Latvian Youth Championship in 100-payline checkers took place in the conference rooms of Riga Islande Hotel, where young people competed for prizes in the U10, U13, U16 and U19 age groups. The championships were held separately for girls and boys in each age group.
In the U10 girls group, Alise Misāne became the Latvian champion by defeating all her opponents and scoring the maximum possible 18 points. Anna Lebedinska came second with 15 points and was awarded the silver medal, while Anna Radionova came third with 14 points and was awarded the bronze medal.
In the U10 boys group, Toms Andersons became the tournament winner and Latvian champion with 16 points and received the gold medal. Pauls Paņko came second with 15 points and received the silver medal, while Mark Paegle came third with 12 points and received the bronze medal.
Luīze Gudēvica Liepiņa became the Latvian champion in the U13 girls group, winning 15 points. Liene Malinovska came second with 13 points and received the silver medal, while Varvara Ivanova won the bronze medal with 12 points.
In the U13 boys group, Iļja Trasko became the Latvian champion with 15 points. Arvo Krebe came second with 13 points and was awarded the silver medal, while Alexander Petrov came third and won the bronze medal with 12 points.
In the U16 girls’ group, the battles were very intense and four players won fourteen points each, so the medal fate was decided by extra scores. Evelīna Orlovska became the Latvian champion and received the gold medal, Malvīne Misāne came second and received the silver medal, and Darja Drabova came third.
In the U16 boys’ group, Pēteris Kripans became the Latvian champion and received the gold medal with 16 points. Second place with 12 points and the silver medal went to Aleksandrs Tabunovs, and third place with 11 points and the bronze medal went to Roberts Serpāns.
In the U19 age group, Sintija Malofeja became the Latvian champion with 11 points and received the gold medal. Polina Gerasimova came second with 11 points and received the silver medal, while Renāte Kalniņa came third with 9 points and received the bronze medal.
In the U19 age group, Vsevolods Mitrēvičs became the Latvian champion with 15 points and received the gold medal. Reinis Štāls came second with 15 points and received the silver medal. Third place, with 14 points, went to Klāvs Norenbergs, who received the bronze medal.
